چکیده

Expressions are derived for the vibrational second hyperpolarizability 1'" of SF 6' in the static limit and for the nonlinear-optical processes of the dc Kerr effect, electric-field-induced second harmonic generation (ESHO), and third harmonic generation (THO). These expressions give 1'" in terms of vibrational transition dipole, polarizability, and first hyperpolarizability matrix elements (f-L,a,/3). The matrix elements needed in the numerical evaluation of 1'" are obtained from the literature and from the Raman scattering measurements reported here. In the static limit it is found that 1'" :::::20 r, where r is the electronic contribution to y. At optical frequencies 1'" is still comparable to r in magnitude, and it shows significant frequency dependence.

Analytic density functional theory calculations of pure vibrational hyperpolarizabilities: the first dipole hyperpolarizability of retinal and related molecules.

We present a general approach for the analytic calculation of pure vibrational contributions to the molecular (hyper)polarizabilities at the density functional level of theory. The analytic approach allows us to study large molecules, and we apply the new code to the study of the first dipole hyperpolarizabilities of retinal and related molecules. We investigate the importance of electron corre...

Electronic and vibrational contributions to first hyperpolarizability of donor-acceptor-substituted azobenzene.

In this study we report on the electronic and vibrational (hyper)polarizabilities of donor-acceptor-substituted azobenzene. It is observed that both electronic and vibrational contributions to the electric dipole first hyperpolarizability of investigated photoactive molecule substantially depend on the conformation. The contributions to the nuclear relaxation first hyperpolarizability are found...

Anharmonicity contributions to the vibrational second hyperpolarizability of conjugated oligomers

Restricted Hartree–Fock 6-31G calculations of electrical and mechanical anharmonicity contributions to the longitudinal vibrational second hyperpolarizability have been carried out for eight homologous series of conjugated oligomers—polyacetylene, polyyne, polydiacetylene, polybutatriene, polycumulene, polysilane, polymethineimine, and polypyrrole. To draw conclusions about the limiting infinit...
